Posted for the 2009 Cliche Bingo in the category "Backstory."
I actually wrote the first draft of this back in March when I read Terry Pratchett's Witches Abroad, because the picture of the witches of Lancre as girls together was too good to resist. But the Cliche Bingo challenge was enough to make me polish it up and post it.
The Art of Discworld has a wonderful drawing of Gytha Ogg (young, ripe, and beautiful, but still with the same gap between her teeth) having a picnic with Leonard of Quirm, who's using her as the model for his Mona Lisa.
