• The name "Langara" replaced whatever the old name was (or possibly, the variety of old names, if there was never a consensus). It was decided on by the Joint Ruling Council in committee. It's from an ancient dialect common to all three nations, and was chosen as a symbol of their new unity. (Fallout)
• The people are human, but not quite baseline, anymore -- according to Nirrti, thousands of years of isolation allowed them to evolve differently (to an unstated degree). (She was speaking specifically about Jonas, and therefore the Kelownans, but presumably all three major nations had similar opportunity to evolve.) (Metamorphosis)
• The three major powers on Langara are Kelowna, Tirania, and the Andari Federation. (Shadowplay, Homecoming, Fallout)
  • Technological development was similar to the US in the 1940s, and the three countries were involved in a Cold War of sorts. (Meridian)

  • The Tiranians and Andaris began airstrikes against Kelowna, as the Kelownans had feared. The Kelownans moved their stargate to a bunker hundreds of feet below an army base to protect it. (Homecoming)
  • The Kelownans survived their civil war with Tirania and Andaria -- by using the naquadria bomb. Ambassador Dreylock's comment was that "everyone immediately regretted it" because the devastation was so much worse than anyone had imagined. The result was a whole lot of dead people, and a cease-fire on all sides. (Homecoming)
  • Delegates from Tirania (Ambassador Sevarin) and the Andari Federation (Ambassador Noor) had just arrived in the city for peace negotiations when Anubis arrived. (Homecoming)
  • The Kelownans never told the Tiranians and Andaris about the stargate, hoping that it wouldn't be necessary. (Homecoming)
  • A Kelownan spy had reported back that the Tiranians had been working on a naquadria bomb of their own for three years -- it turns out they had no naquadria of their own, but instead had stolen some from the Andaris. (Homecoming)
  • After the attack by Anubis and the revelations of arms-building and secrets on all sides, the three countries agreed to form a Joint Ruling Council, with one representative from each country. The other two countries insisted that Jonas be the Kelownan representative on the council. (Homecoming) The other two members were Lucia Tarthus of the Andari Federation, and Vin Eremal of Tirania. Specifically, they wanted help getting their Jet Interceptor Program off the ground (not my pun, I swear, that came straight off the screen), because they were badly outmatched by their enemies in the air.   • Jack (on behalf of the SGC) also refused that, on the grounds that there was no way to guarantee that the Kelownans wouldn't decide to use the weapons offensively, to take out enemy aircraft over enemy territory as well. (Shadowplay)
• When the Kelownans's enemies began massing along their borders, Sam suggested allowing an SG diplomatic team to sit down at the negotiating table with the three powers. The Kelownans refused, unwilling to reveal the secret of the stargate to anyone. (Shadowplay)
• Jonas convinced the council to allow the SGC to take the injured Doctor Kieran, because of Earth's better medical facilities. (Shadowplay)
• The SGC lost contact with Kelowna shortly after Kieran arrived. The SGC couldn't be sure whether the Kelownans had been conquered or not. (Shadowplay)
• The Kelownans once again made contact to reopen relations when they found themselves in a dangerous situation, calling for help after Anubis appeared over Kelowna's capital city and began his push to raid/conquer. (Homecoming)
  • On Earth's insistence (via Jack and Sam), the Kelownans informed the Tiranians and Andaris about the stargate and what was going on. (Homecoming)
  • The SGC couldn't send forces in any real number to help, but in addition to SG-1 (and the temporary alliance with the other System Lords), sent SGs 11 and 15 as "technical advisors" to help with the thousand or so Jaffa who had occupied the city. (Homecoming)
• Months later, when the seriousness of the situation with the naquadah vein transforming into naquadria became clear, Jonas returned to Earth to ask for help in figuring out the problem and stopping it if possible. (Fallout)
  • The SGC sent Sam to work on the problem of figuring out what had happened and how to stop it. (Fallout)
  • The SGC invited a representative from each major power to talks about evacuation plans. Two of the Joint Ruling Council members arrived (Lucia Tarthus of the Andari Federation, and Vin Eremal of Tirania).   • The SGC offered Madrona(s) as an evacuation site for thousands of Langarans. The idea didn't go over particularly well. (Fallout)
  • The Langaran representatives seemed more interested in bickering amongst themselves and jockeying for position than in actually doing anything. Eventually, it was enough to drive both Jack and Teal'c from the table in disgust, leaving the diplomacy to Daniel. (Fallout)
  • After more bickering and recriminations (mostly aimed at Dreylock), all three finally agreed to send a three-person evaluation team to Madrona(s) to judge its suitability as an evacuation planet. (Fallout)
  • After being briefly distracted by the knowledge that it was necessary for the Goa'ulded Kianna Cyr to be part of the Underground Excavator team, then again by information that Baal was trying to contact Kianna, the representatives went back to discussing evacuation plans, with Daniel still as mediator. They got stuck on the selection process: the Kelownans wanted a lottery, the Tiranians wanted assigned positions, and the Andaris wanted to form a committee to discuss the problem. (Fallout)
  • The problem with selection of survivors eventually devolved into nearly a declaration of war, to Daniel's intense disgust, as Dreylock insisted on equal representation using the stargate as a battering ram of leverage, Eremal blamed Kelowna entirely for the problem to begin with, and Tarthus started blustering that the Andaris would do whatever necessary to ensure the survival of their people, implying very strongly that they'd take the stargate by force if need be.   • Jack (backed by Hammond) ended the negotiations by walking in and calling a halt to the talks, taking back the offer of Madrona(s) as an evacuation site, saying that the Madronans were too nice to be forced to put up with the Langarans. The Langaran representatives were allowed to stay at the SGC only long enough to hear if Sam, Jonas, and the others were successful in stopping the naquadria at its source. (Fallout)

• Kelownan warning/all clear signals are similar to ours: orange for warning, blue for all-clear, rather than red and green. (Meridian)
• Their leader (equivalent to a president or prime minister) is called the High Minister. (Meridian)
• There was at least one volcano in Kelowna -- Mount Kallan. It had been dormant for hundreds of years when Jonas, Sam, Teal'c, and Kianna began tunneling downward in the Deep Underground Excavation Vehicle, but still had active magma flows. (Fallout)
• The Kelownans discovered a stargate in about 1986. (Meridian)
• When the SGC made contact with Kelowna in 2001, the Kelownans were fairly open about their city and society, but gave no access to the other nations on the world -- they were determined to keep the stargate to themselves. (Meridian)
• The government, working on information given by the scientists, claimed that Daniel had tried to sabotage their research project, and that he had been injured as a result. They only let him go home on compassionate grounds, but demanded that he be returned to face charges if he survived. Even after Jonas Quinn told them the truth, they refused to admit Daniel's heroism in saving millions of Kelownan lives. (Meridian)
• Kelowna fell under attack by Anubis in early 2003 after he mind-probed Jonas and found out about Kelowna's stores of naquadria. (Homecoming)
  • Anubis appeared without warning and began taking High Council members hostage. When the Kelownans wouldn't give in to his demands, he killed the First Minister (?supposed to be the High Minister?) and fired a volley into the industrial sector, destroying many factories and killing innocent civilians. He sent about a thousand Jaffa into the streets. (Homecoming)
  • The Kelownans gave in after the deaths, giving Anubis their entire stockpile of naquadria, as he'd demanded. (Homecoming)
    • This was the last of the Kelownan naquadria -- the mine had run dry. (Homecoming)
  • On Jack and Sam's insistence, Commander Hale and Ambassador Dreylock brought Ambassadors Sevarin (Tiranian) and Noor (Andari) to the bunker, to tell them about the stargate and give them more details about what was going on -- Jack refused to approve any plan to help the Kelownans without the full support of all three major powers on the planet. (Homecoming)
    • The two ambassadors were reluctant to agree at first, thinking that because their countries weren't currently under attack, they'd be safe. (Homecoming)
  • After rounding up all the archaeologists they could find, Jaffa began ransacking the Museum of Antiquities, looking for things from the exhibit that had been there before the civil war: an exhibit of Goa'uld artifacts from the distant past, including tablets that said that the Goa'uld who originally occupied the planet was working with naquadria, and a crystal that could have contained his notes and test results. • It turned out that naquadria wasn't native to Kelowna. Thousands of years ago (10,000 according to Meridian, 3,000 according to Fallout), the Goa'uld Thanos invented a process that turned raw naquadah deposits into raw naquadria deposits, and it started a chain reaction. That reaction stopped after a while, leaving a limited amount of naquadria on the planet. (Thanos left at some point after inventing this process, after experiments with the naquadria caused a massive explosion. [Meridian, Fallout]) (Fallout)
• Jonas eventually came to believe that naquadria didn't exist in nature at all, that the reason it was never found anywhere other than his planet was because it was strictly the result of Thanos's experimentation. (Fallout)
• The explosion of the experimental bomb in Meridian, which effectively killed Daniel as well as several Kelownan scientists, began another such chain reaction. The Kelownans had no idea that naquadria was formed in that manner, and didn't realize for nearly two years what had happened, when they found another huge, still-forming naquadria deposit miles under the surface. The naquadah vein that was being transformed went even deeper, and the further down the change to naquadria happened, the more intense the heat and pressure became. Eventually, the unstable naquadria would explode, probably obliterating half of Kelowna and causing massive disasters across the rest of the planet (basically, a nuclear winter, with huge amount of dust and debris kicked into the atmosphere and blocking the sunlight, and presumably also earthquakes and possibly tidal waves). By the time the SGC got called in to help (not long after the discovery of the vein, when the Kelownans still believed that this was the continuation of a process started thousands of years earlier), the Kelownans had maybe a month before the explosion. • While Sam was explaining to Jonas that the current process had probably started two years ago, rather than thousands of years ago, a small pocket of naquadria some 20 kilometers beneath the surface exploded, causing an earthquake. (Fallout)
• Sam found a fault line in the rock near the naquadah vein that was being transformed, above the deep deposit that was the true danger, and figured that a small nuclear bomb placed on the fault line would move the vein enough to cut it off from the deposit, stopping the transformation process and protecting Kelowna. (Fallout)
• Jonas and Sam began working with the Deep Underground Excavation Vehicle to ready it to drill down through 20 kilometers of solid rock to reach the fault line. Eventually, they had to bring Kianna Cyr in, as well, for her greater reaction times and knowledge of the systems. The three of them and Teal'c traveled down in the vehicle, even through a river of magma, to reach the place where the bomb could be placed. The vehicle was damaged by the magma, though, and stopped a kilometer before it reached the target position. Kianna shut down the engines (presumably to keep them from overloading while they were stuck in the rock). (Fallout)
• While Kianna was outside the vehicle laying the nuclear charge (having made her way through a kilometer of rock using focused Tok'ra crystals), the ship's generators began losing power. According to Kianna, if the power level went below 50%, they wouldn't even be able to start the engines. (Fallout)
• The bomb went off where it was supposed to, and successfully cut off the vein from the deep deposit. (Fallout)
• The excavator was still underground when the bomb went off, but wasn't particularly affected. The real concern was whether it would have enough power to make it all the way back to the surface, which it did, barely. (Fallout)
• During the transformation process, the naquadah that doesn't become naquadria is converted into lighter elements. (Fallout)

• Discovered in Kelowna approximately in 1986, along with a number of Goa'uld artifacts, in what appeared to be an ancient temple. The Kelownans's knowledge of the gate is limited, but they're extremely interested in it and eager to learn more, and to trade with Earth (offering any technology that they may develop in return). • Originally found a ring platform when they uncovered the stargate -- they stuck it in with the other Goa'uld artifacts in a museum, where it was later moved to a warehouse. It hadn't been used in more than 2,000 years, but still functioned perfectly when Daniel and Jonas used it to ring down to Kelowna from Anubis's ship. (Homecoming)
• The stargate is a secret there, much like on Earth (except apparently a better-kept secret). Only the Kelownan government and approved scientists know about it. (Shadowplay)
• Research related to the stargate is one of the Kelownans's most secret and important research operations, leading to tight security. (Meridian)
• The main research is to develop a naquadria-based bomb that would eventually (if they succeed) be as powerful as a naquadah-enhanced nuclear warhead. (Meridian)
• After Jonas left, Kelownan archaeologists discovered large amounts of naquadria in mine shafts beneath the original site -- 300 pounds. (Shadowplay)
• The scientists managed to complete a successful test of a naquadria bomb after Jonas left. (Shadowplay)
• Daniel translated some writings from the temple and discovered that 10,000 years ago, a Goa'uld had tried the same experiments, and had nearly destroyed the world. The scientists refused to believe him, and continued with their experiment. (Meridian)
• During a test of the device, it malfunctioned and began putting out radiation -- enough to kill the scientists in the room. Daniel broke through the protective glass and removed the core, preventing a massive explosion that could have killed millions of people, and suffered severe radiation exposure in the process. • Sometime in late 2000 or early 2001 ("two and a half years ago" as of mid-late 2003) the Kelownans began working on the Deep Underground Excavation Vehicle -- a giant, two-headed drill with a navigation/pilot/research compartment in the middle. It took two and a half years to complete, at a cost of over half the annual Kelownan research budget. (Fallout)It was designed to mine naquadria. (Fallout)
• The fore and aft sections were each fitted with titanium cutters, which can withstand or apply thrust of up to 50 metric tons. The vehicle can move through rock at roughly 80 meters per hour. (Fallout)
• During 2003, the Goa'uld inside Kianna Cyr had made many modifications to its systems, vastly increasing its efficiency and completing the entire project much earlier than it would have been otherwise. The downside to that was that she was the only one who could properly control the vehicle -- the constant adjustments in reaction to depth and rock density happened too fast for normal humans to be able to cope. • On its first voyage, the vehicle survived passing through a river of magma, thanks in part to its shields. The forward drill was damaged, however, and the vehicle stopped short of its destination. (Fallout)

• The real Kianna was taken over by a Goa'uld (unnamed) as soon as Baal found out about naquadria after Anubis probed Jonas's mind -- the Goa'uld was sent to gain as much information as possible and report back, and implanted herself in the scientist, who was already working on the naquadria project, granting the symbiote access to sensitive information. She injected herself with something on a regular basis to keep her symbiote undetectable (it's not clear if this was long-term, for her entire stay, or just while Sam was around and able to sense Goa'uld, but the latter seems likely). • In her guise as a scientist, she took the suggestions Jonas made for improving the Kelownan technology used in the Deep Underground Excavation Vehicle (based on things he'd learned at the SGC) and went to town, modifying the hydraulics, shields, and more -- to Goa'uld specifications, although Jonas never realized that. (Fallout)
• She began a relationship with Jonas -- which, oddly, she seemed sincere about. After he discovered she was a Goa'uld and immediately dropped their relationship, she tried hard to get it going again, apparently because she genuinely had feelings for him. (Fallout)
• She also insisted on going with Sam, Teal'c, and Jonas in the underground excavator, saying she was the only one who could handle its modifications properly -- she was right. After Sam and Jonas tried and failed to operate the vehicle in a simulation, they brought Kianna back in on it. (Fallout)
• She was helpful during the trip, doing nothing to sabotage them, and even repairing some failing systems. (Fallout)
• When the vehicle stopped short of its destination after the forward drill was damaged by magma, Kianna volunteered to take Tok'ra crystals and go out into the rock to place the nuclear charge, saying that "her symbiote" would protect her from the heat and noxious gas (nb: that's incorrect, since it was the symbiote talking). She claimed that she was more than just a servant of Baal, and that she hadn't yet reported about the new naquadria deposits. (Fallout)
• She neither confirmed nor denied when Sam said "you want [the naquadria] for yourself", but later, in the tunnel after laying the charge, Kianna muttered "so much for my empire" when Sam told her that the vehicle was losing power -- Kianna assumed that she would die where she was at that point. The host's body was already badly damaged, and she told the others to leave without her. When they wouldn't, she made the climb back up the tunnel, getting back just before the power levels got so low they would have been forced to leave. (Fallout)
• Back at the SGC (where she was presumably brought for medical treatment), the symbiote died, but didn't kill Kianna. Kianna remembered everything, but vaguely, saying it was like a dream. According to Kianna, the symbiote had appreciated everything they'd done for her. She went back to Kelowna with Jonas, still wearing burn bandages on her hands. (Fallout)

She acceded to SGC demands that the other powers on the planet be informed about the stargate and the full extent of the situation. She also offered to lead Sam and Teal'c to the warehouse where the artifacts from an exhibit at the Museum of Antiquities were being stored -- including a crystal that Anubis was trying to lay his hands on. (Homecoming)
• At some point after the formation of the Joint Ruling Council, she was appointed/elected First Minister. She and a representative from the Andari Federation (Vin Eremal) and Tirania (Lucia Tarthus) traveled to Earth to negotiate for help with the unstable naquadria deep in the ground, which was mere weeks away from exploding catastrophically and destroying them. When Jonas and Sam explained what they'd learned about how the new naquadria reaction had begun (the result of the bomb test explosion two years earlier, which released sub-atomic particles that catalyzed a vein of naquadah), she tried to deny it at first, but eventually accepted it and went to tell the other representatives. Vin Eremal promptly -- and angrily -- blamed the Kelownan government for the imminent destruction of Langara. Dreylock just as promptly turned the blame around, saying that the Andari and Tiranian governments had allied against Kelowna specifically to attack it, and that Kelowna had simply been protecting itself. When Tarthus protested that they'd allied only after they'd learned of the bomb being built, she countered by saying that only proved they'd been spying on Kelowna. She continued doing her part to keep the bickering going until finally Jack (and everyone else) had had enough, and called off the talks entirely. (Fallout)

• When Jonas was still on the planet, Hale was Undersecretary for Military Appropriations. Within a few months, had been promoted to Chairman of the Kelownan Defense Council. He was part of the delegation sent to Earth to reopen diplomatic relations, and part of the delegation on Kelowna sitting at the table during negotiations for trading Earth weapons tech for Kelownan naquadria. (Shadowplay) He acceded (reluctantly) to SGC demands that the other powers on the planet be informed about the stargate and the full extent of the situation after Anubis attacked Kelowna -- he clearly still didn't trust them much, and was still pretty partisan in his views. At some point, he betrayed SG-1 and the other SG teams, and the Tiranian and Andari ambassadors and people, making a private deal with Anubis to ensure Kelowna's safety. As soon as he'd handed over the crystal that Anubis wanted, Herak shot him dead. (Homecoming)

• One of Jonas's old teachers at university, and one of the three original members of the naquadria project along with Leed and Silas. He recruited Jonas into the project. He began having nightmares after he witnessed the first test of the naquadria bomb, and realized how powerful it was. He developed schizophrenia as a result of exposure to high levels of naquadria radiation, and deluded himself into thinking he was part of a resistance movement set to overthrow the existing governments (Kelowna, Tirania, and the Andari Federation) and bring peace to his world. As part of this "resistance movement", he had been stealing small amounts of naquadria and squirreling it away for three months, and had amassed a fairly large amount. He tried to get SG-1 to help with his "coup", asking them to bring an invasion force into the government building that housed the stargate (bringing the soldiers through the stargate) and take it over as quickly and bloodlessly as possible. Jack refused. Later, on his way to meet the "resistance" to set up a meeting with them and SG-1, Kieran fell and was badly injured. He was brought to Earth and after a brief stay in the SGC infirmary he was placed in an institution and medicated, in hopes of preventing further mental damage from the naquadria radiation (the existing schizophrenia was physically irreversible). • He's a very fast reader (read a text Daniel gave him in just one night), but is more intrigued by exploration than by academics. Although he originally went along with the other scientists and his government in laying blame for the naquadria-device accident on Daniel, after Jack gave him what for, and after seeing his leaders's glee at the reports of the device's power (after watching his comrades die horrible deaths as a result of that power), he changed his mind. He told his leaders the truth, and when they wouldn't acknowledge what Daniel had done, he stole as much naquadria as he could, and brought it to the SGC, along with the real story of what happened. If he got caught returning, he would be considered a traitor. In return for bringing the naquadria, he asked that the SGC share any defense technologies (such as shields) they develop. (Meridian)
• After a year or so with the SGC (see SG-1 and Jonas), Jonas returned to Kelowna to be the Kelownan representative on the new Joint Ruling Council -- a council made up of representatives from Kelowna, Tirania, and Andari. The other two major powers wouldn't agree to the council unless Jonas was the Kelownan rep. (Homecoming)
• Returned to the SGC several months after leaving it to ask for help. He and other scientists had been working on translating the data crystal left behind by Thanos thousands of years ago, and had discovered a highly dangerous situation -- naquadah in the ground was being transformed into naquadria, and one particular vein was going ever deeper toward the center of the planet. Once it reached a certain depth, it would explode, destroying Kelowna and causing massive disasters across the rest of the planet. (Fallout)
• Was romantically involved with Kianna Cyr, one of the scientists helping him with the translations. When he discovered that she was actually a Goa'uld, he backed away completely, despite the Goa'uld's (apparently sincere) attempts to convince him that it was really her he'd fallen for in the first place, since he'd never met the un-goaulded Kianna. (Fallout)
• He had wanted to come forward with information about the Deep Underground Excavation Vehicle for years, but was always overruled by the Kelownan cabinet. He was relieved to realize that he had no choice but to show it all to Sam, so they could use it to try to stop the naquadria reaction deep in the ground. (Fallout)
• For whatever reason, by the time he was taking the de-Goa'ulded Kianna back home from the SGC, Jonas was referring to Jack as "Jack", rather than "Colonel O'Neill"(at least once). (Fallout)

• During the ongoing attacks, on Jack and Sam's insistence, Commander Hale and Ambassador Dreylock brought Ambassadors Sevarin and Noor to the Kelownans's secret bunker, to tell them about the stargate and give them more details about what was going on. Jack refused to approve any plan to help the Kelownans without the full support of all three major powers on the planet. (Homecoming)
• Like Sevarin, Noor seemed reluctant to agree at first, thinking that because the Andari Federation wasn't currently under attack, it would be safe. But she agreed. (Homecoming)
• She was captured by Herak, along with Sevarin, and brought to the bunker where Hale was in the process of betraying everyone to Anubis. She was among the group being brought out to be publicly executed as an example when Baal appeared and began attacking Anubis, causing enough of a ruckus to let SG-1 turn the tables on their captors. • She traveled to Earth with First Minister Dreylock and Councilor Eremal, to negotiate for help with the naquadria problem. She completely failed to understand the scope of the problem -- when the SGC offered evacuation aid for as many people from all three nations as possible, she scoffed, saying that while she was aware that Kelowna would suffer devastation in the event of the explosion, her nation was prepared to offer humanitarian aid. She had assumed that the Kelownan explanation of the problem was exaggerated at best, and untrue at worst, citing their history with "Kelownan propaganda" as her reason. (Fallout)
• When she and Eremal finally accepted the truth, the SGC began offering relocation options, including Madrona(s). Tarthus wasn't especially happy about that, and instead said that the Andari Federation would consider accepting an uninhabited world -- she wanted a world just for their nation, and apparently hadn't bothered to think about what you do with millions of people used to a technological life suddenly shifted to a primitive world with no infrastructure.
• She took the opportunity to snark at Vin Eremal about the tyranny the Andaris had suffered in the past under Tiranian rule, starting up what was clearly a very old argument between the two sides. Jack made them both knock it off. (Fallout)
• Later, when Dreylock (who had just found out herself) explained that it had been the attempted test of the Kelownan naquadria bomb two years earlier (Meridian) that had triggered transformation of the current large naquadah deposit, Tarthus and Eremal flipped out, blaming Kelowna for the imminent destruction of their world. Tarthus got into a snippy political fight with Dreylock about why both sides had started arming at escalating rates. Daniel finally interrupted to stop them. (Fallout)
